Why clean your mat?
After every session your mat carries sweat and dirt from your hands and feet. If you do not clean it, the surface gets slippery and starts to smell. Regular cleaning keeps your mat hygienic and makes it last longer.
How to clean a yoga mat
After practice, lightly spray the surface, wipe it with a damp cloth and let it dry before rolling it up. For a deep clean, follow your mat manufacturer's instructions. Liforme recommends a soft, damp cloth and a little mild dish soap diluted in water, and avoiding strong sprays and essential oils.
How often should you clean your mat?
A quick clean with spray makes sense after every session where you sweat, and above all after hot yoga. Do a deep clean less often, when the surface gets slippery or the mat holds on to a smell. Always let the mat dry completely before rolling it up, so moisture does not get trapped between the layers. The same goes for a mat towel: wash it and dry it before you use it again.
